I had been debating the purchase of a netbook prior to heading overseas. My first instinct was no considering I wasn't expecting to have access to electricity at my residence, but the Peace Corps guide for Uganda states that most volunteers who bring laptops are happy they did.
I flew in Columbia last Thursday night for my brother's bachelor party weekend. Friday morning I tried to get online and check on the weekend plans but found my computer was dead. Overall made my decision real easy, before I left town I had an Acer Netbook overnighted to my condo. I've since recovered my music from my Ipod, loaded up MS Office, and ordered a hard drive to USB cable to try to recover pictures and documents. Overall the thing I'm most upset about is losing the excel spreadsheet that was my packing list. I had weighed everything I intended to bring. I'll start over this weekend, but I am not happy.
The good news... I now have a computer with 10 hours battery life that only takes up 3 lbs of my 80 lb packing limit. Later this week, the first edition of my packing list.
